Lawn Renovation Step 2: Clear Thatch and Dying Grass

July 18, 2012  |  Around the House

As you can see, I spent countless hours clearing the lawn of thatch and dying grass in order clear the slate. It is possible to just put top soil on top of it all and seed, but i wanted to till the ground, install some french drains, and lay brick next to my drive way where cars constantly drive off and compact the ground. Plus, I destroyed the yard in early summer and tall fescue is best seeded in the early fall. Anyways, below are some pictures of the yard after removing 95% of the grass and thatch.
